Medical disclaimer

FeverBlisterCare is built to educate and to help you keep your own records. It is not medical care.

What FeverBlisterCare is

FeverBlisterCare is an educational and personal-tracking membership for adults who experience recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis). Everything on this website, including text, checklists, questionnaires, statistics and pattern summaries, is provided for general information and personal organization only.

What FeverBlisterCare is not

  • It does not diagnose. Cold-sore-like symptoms can have other causes. Only a qualified healthcare professional can tell you what you have.
  • It does not replace healthcare professionals. It is not a substitute for advice, examination or treatment from a doctor, pharmacist, dermatologist, eye specialist or other qualified provider.
  • It does not prescribe. We do not recommend specific medicines for you or give personal dosing. Information about medicines is general and varies by country; availability, formulations, prescription status and labelling differ.
  • It does not guarantee prevention or treatment. The herpes simplex virus canโ€™t currently be eliminated from the body. No product, habit or routine described here is guaranteed to prevent an outbreak or to shorten or cure one.
  • It is educational. Our statistics and โ€œpatternsโ€ describe only what you recorded. They donโ€™t show that anything caused an outbreak.

Talking to a professional

Please consult a qualified healthcare professional about any medical question, before starting, stopping or changing any medicine or product, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a weakened immune system, if you are caring for a baby or young child, or if youโ€™re unsure whether something is a cold sore. Never ignore or delay professional advice because of something you read here.

When to seek urgent help

  • Symptoms involving or near the eye. Herpes infection involving the eye can need urgent professional assessment.
  • Trouble breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
  • A severe allergic reaction to any product or medicine.
  • A high fever, confusion, severe headache or stiff neck.

If you are in doubt, contact your local emergency number or visit urgent care. In the United States, call 911; in the United Kingdom, call 999 (or NHS 111 for urgent advice); in the European Union, call 112. Other countries have their own numbers.

Accuracy and sources

We aim to keep information accurate and consistent with reputable public-health sources, which are linked on the relevant pages. Medical knowledge and guidance change, and recommendations differ between countries, so some information may be out of date or may not apply to you.
